[3-4-2-1]: Chido-Obi start, Zirkzee’s position changed and Hojlund dropped- Manchester United predicted lineups vs Lyon as Ruben Amorim names a deadly lineups ahead of the Europa League clash

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim will be happy that his team managed to keep a clean sheet against Manchester City at the weekend.

It certainly wasn’t a classic derby but it gives the Red Devils something to build on ahead of the Europa League clash against Lyon.

Their opponents go into Thursday’s match having beaten Lille at the weekend so they are in decent form, especially at home. United will, therefore, be hoping to keep things tight at the back to ensure they are still in the tie heading back for the second leg at Old Trafford.

Press the next page as we predict the Manchester side’s starting lineup for the game.

Goalkeeper and Defence

GK – Andre Onana – the 29-year-old had some routine saves to make in the derby, but he may be tested more frequently in France.

CB – Noussair Mazraoui – the defender was poor against Forest last week but he played a lot better versus City, having been switched to the right-hand side of the back three.

CB – Harry Maguire – the centre-back was taken off after 58 minutes in the derby to manage his fitness but he should be ready to start on Thursday night.

CB – Leny Yoro – the teenager returns to his homeland for the first time since leaving Lille.

Midfield

RWB – Diogo Dalot – the wingback was one of the better performers against City and it will be hoped that he can get forward to support the attack as often as possible against Lyon.

CM – Manuel Ugarte – while the jury is still out on the Uruguayan’s ability, Amorim will need his energy and work rate in this game.

CM – Casemiro – the 33-year-old has managed to change Amorim’s mind, and that is testament to his improved performances in recent weeks.

LWB – Patrick Dorgu – it has been a difficult start for the young Dane at Old Trafford and he will need to do more if he is to keep out the fit-again Luke Shaw.

Forwards

RW – Bruno Fernandes – quite simply, if the captain performs well then United have a chance of securing their passage through to the semi-finals.

Fernandes is United’s primary creator, and if he can find pockets of space, he will cause Lyon plenty of problems.

CF – Joshua Zirkzee – it’s likely that Amorim will rotate up front again with the Dutchman coming in and Rasmus Hojlund dropping to the bench.

LW – Alejandro Garnacho – the winger had his moments against City, but he is clearly struggling with confidence in front of goal. If he can find the back of the net versus Lyon, it would do him the world of good.
