“I’m not happy just because we won but I’m happy because of what our fans did yesterday, I’m so proud of them”: Man United’s coach Ruben Amorim named ONE unnoticed thing the fan did that flattered him yesterday

Manchester United fans were treated to a memorable away day as Ruben Amorim’s side dumped Arsenal out of the FA Cup on Sunday.

Manchester United’s status as defending FA Cup champions was in some danger as soon as Arsenal were pulled out for a third round clash.

A trip to the Emirates Stadium was always going to be a battle but United came out on top after taking the game all the way.

Bruno Fernandes hammered home a superb opener before Diogo Dalot picked up a suspension with a silly red card, putting United in trouble.

Gabriel Magalhaes scored a rather fortunate leveller but Arsenal went on to miss chance after chance as the game went to penalties.

Altay Bayindir made himself the hero by saving from Kai Havertz whilst United scored five from five to progress.

United will face Leicester City in the next round with Ruud van Nistelrooy returning to Old Trafford.

For now though, United fans will just want to celebrate Sunday’s superb victory ahead of Thursday’s clash with Southampton.

United ended 2024 on such a low against Newcastle United but have turned in a couple of strong away performances against Liverpool and now Arsenal.

Amorim will hope to really build some momentum going forward and he has paid tribute to the travelling United fans in North London.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Amorim praised the travelling United fans as ‘unbelievable’.

Amorim admitted that he didn’t realise United fans would have such a huge section behind the goal.

Away fans at the Emirates Stadium are usually right in the corner but nearly 8,000 United fans were cheering the side on.

Amorim was seemingly taken aback upon seeing so many United fans inside the Emirates Stadium but was delighted to give them a ‘good day’ in the capital.

“I want to also say thank you to all the fans. It was unbelievable. I did not understand that all that area was our supporters, so it was a good day for us now we have to rest the players, I’m already thinking about the next game they’re really tired,” said Amorim.

Arsenal blocked even more United fans
Those 8,000 United fans certainly enjoyed their day in London but there could have been even more in attendance.

The Daily Mail note that United were entitled to 9,000 tickets as per competition rules.

However, Arsenal refused to give the extra 1,000 tickets to United due to ‘safety concerns’.

Those extra United fans would have been in an upper tier with Arsenal seemingly concerned about mixing them in so close to Gunners supporters.

United even attempted to give those tickets to families and children but Arsenal still said no.

That was a major disappointment and United complained to The FA, but they suggested that there was not enough time to give the tickets to emergency service workers.

United’s travelling fans certainly impressed Amorim but there may be a sour taste inside Old Trafford after Arsenal blocked those ticket appeals.
