India got a shock before the test series against Australia, Sarfaraz Khan got injured in the practice session.

Perth (Australia): Indian batsman Sarfaraz Khan was seen walking out of the training session after suffering an elbow injury ahead of the first Test against Australia in Perth from November 22. In a training clip, Sarfaraz was seen walking out of the session after injuring his right elbow while batting. Team India is practicing for this series at the Western Australia Cricket Association (WACA) ground in Perth, having reached Australia in two batches a few days ago. According to Wisden, Sarfaraz has ‘no problem’ after his elbow injury.

Sarfaraz, 27, is in contention to play in the Perth Test at the Optus Stadium, while captain Rohit Sharma may be ruled out due to personal reasons. The other candidates for Sarfaraz’s place in the middle order are experienced KL Rahul and young wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel. Jurel impressed in the recently concluded Australia A-India A series and scored innings of 80 and 68 in pressure situations during the second match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

After a stellar performance in first-class cricket, Sarfaraz made his international debut in the five-match home series against England and started his journey with two consecutive half-centuries. However, he has been inconsistent since then, scoring 150 against New Zealand in Bengaluru and just one half-century in his other 7 innings. In six Test matches, Sarfaraz has scored 371 runs at an average of 37.10, including one century and three fifties, and a best score of 150 in 11 innings.

The young batsman has not yet played a Test outside India and will be tested on the fast, bouncy surfaces of Australia. Sarfaraz has not played a single Test outside India yet and will look to dispel concerns about his ability to play on bouncy pitches. The much-awaited Border-Gavaskar series between India and Australia will begin with the first Test in Perth on November 22.
