“Initially I’m not planning to join Real Madrid but if the coach refused to change this particular thing, I’ll consider them”: Manchester United’s midfielder Bruno Fernandes has named ONE changed Ruben Amorim must made or he’ll leave for Real Madrid

Manchester United will eye Mikkel Damsgaard if Bruno Fernandes leaves for Real Madrid.

Manchester United are bracing for a busy summer transfer window, with several departures expected following a disappointing season.

A squad overhaul is on the cards, as the club looks to inject fresh energy and move on from underperforming players. Yet, amidst the expected changes, a few names remain central to the club’s future, chief among them, Bruno Fernandes.

The Portuguese international has been one of the Premier League’s standout performers in recent years and remains a vital figure in United’s setup, earning him admiring glances from Real Madrid. While United are reluctant to lose their talismanic midfielder, a move becomes a real possibility when a club of Madrid’s stature comes calling, and the Red Devils may need to prepare for that scenario.

Mikkel Damsgaard backed to replace Bruno Fernandes

According to the Daily Mirror via Fichajes, Manchester United have identified Mikkel Damsgaard as a potential replacement should Bruno Fernandes depart for Real Madrid. The Danish midfielder has been a key figure for Brentford since his arrival in 2022 and continues to grow in influence. In the ongoing 2024/25 Premier League season, Damsgaard has scored two goals in 30 appearances.

While his goal tally may seem modest, his overall contribution tells a different story. Damsgaard averages 0.08 goals per 90 minutes, but his total goal contributions, 11 goals and assists combined—translate to 0.44 goal involvements per 90 minutes. These numbers highlight his creative impact and underscore the role he’s played as a key playmaker for the Bees.

Damsgaard could emerge as Manchester United’s under-the-radar solution if Bruno Fernandes completes a move to Real Madrid. The 24-year-old Danish playmaker is known for his dribbling, vision, and silky footwork, attributes that mirror some of Fernandes’ creative flair. His ability to operate both centrally and out wide would offer new boss Ruben Amorim valuable tactical flexibility.

However, while Damsgaard is undoubtedly talented, his name may not inspire the same level of excitement among fans as a direct replacement for a player of Fernandes’ calibre. Though a solid performer, he would be seen as a low-key and perhaps underwhelming choice to fill the boots of one of United’s most influential stars.

Damsgaard’s ability to thread incisive passes and score from distance could help fill the creative void Bruno Fernandes might leave behind. While not yet at Bruno’s level, his youth, hunger, and versatility align well with Manchester United’s rebuilding plans. At just 24 and under contract with Brentford until 2030, he won’t come cheap, but if Fernandes joins Real Madrid, United would likely have the funds to make a serious move. How the transfer window unfolds remains to be seen.
