Manchester United have “made initial enquiries” into signing Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha, according to CaughtOffside.
This summer is a crucial one for Man United, who are looking to rebuild after their worst-ever Premier League season. The Red Devils finished 15th in the top flight and losing the Europa League final ensured that the club will not be playing European football in the coming campaign.
Ruben Amorim, appointed early in the 2024/25 season, now finally has a pre-season to better implement his tactical ideas. Man United have signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves and have been linked with a number of other potential incomings, such as recruiting Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, with several departures also expected.
Now, it appears that the Old Trafford side are keen on bolstering their ranks in central midfield ahead of the new season.

CaughtOffside have reported that Man United are “maintaining communication” with Bayern Munich ahead of a potential move for Joao Palhinha. The Portuguese established himself, with Fulham, as one of the best disruptors in world football, earning him a move to Bavaria last summer.
Despite Palhinha’s ability, the midfielder struggled for consistent minutes under Vincent Kompany, sparking rumours over a potential departure. On paper, Palhinha would suit Amorim’s system as a central midfielder, being a defensive anchor to allow Man United’s number 10s more freedom in attack.
As per CaughtOffside, Bayern would demand between £25-£30 million for Palhinha, a lower tag than the fee he was signed for just one year ago. With consistent minutes, Palhinha, described as a “world-class” player, would surely soon find his form again and could be a brilliant addition for the Red Devils.
