Medical Ongoing: Another world-class striker is currently undergoing medical to join Arsenal the South American frontman officially bid farewell to Old club

Arsenal are moving closer to signing RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko but still have ‘work to do’ in their pursuit of the Slovenia international, journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

The Gunners have earmarked Sesko as their priority option to bolqster Mikel Arteta’s frontline this summer and have held initial conversations over the 22-year-old’s arrival at the Emirates.

However, they have yet to reach an agreement with either the player or the club, and further contacts are expected this week to try and find a solution.

Sesko, who could cost £70m, is believed to be keen on a move to Arsenal and is particularly eager to join forces with Arteta, who, alongside sporting director Andrea Berta, is pushing for the Slovenian’s arrival.

‘Very positive’ conversations have taken place

Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, has revealed that Arsenal continue to work on a deal to sign Sesko this summer and are expected to hold further talks in the coming days:

“So a very positive conversation, moving closer to getting the striker they want. But there is still some work to do, because as of today, Sunday, still no agreement Sesko-Arsenal, still no agreement Arsenal-Leipzig, so there is still some work to do.

“This work will restart early next week, so new contacts between Arsenal, Leipzig and Benjamin Sesko to try to find the agreements and to try to find a solution for Sesko to become a new Arsenal player.

“The player is keen on the move, tempted by the project. Mikel Arteta is obviously a big factor, also with the director Andrea Berta working on the deal.

“So they are all working together on this one, but still need to find agreements with the player, with the agent and with RB Leipzig.

“So let’s be careful, let’s wait for the right steps. But in the next days, more contacts are expected for the Benjamin Sesko story.”

Sesko was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates last summer, before he put pen to paper on a new five-year contract with Leipzig.

The ‘underrated’ Slovenia international has no shortage of admirers in the Premier League, with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United also thought to be interested.

Sesko enjoyed another prolific campaign for Leipzig this season, scoring 21 goals and providing six assists in 45 appearances across all competitions.

The 22-year-old also netted four times in the Champions League, taking his total tally to six goals in 28 appearances in the tournament.
