New setback for Thingnes Bø: – Now I have to wake up

The season has not started perfectly for the world’s best biathlete.
– This weekend was a wake-up call. I thought I would be better both at the stand and on the trail, says Johannes Thingnes Bø to NRK.
Endre Strømsheim struck in the final round and beat Saturday’s winner Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen in the duel for victory in the joint start at Sjusjøen. Strømsheim won by a full 25 seconds after the knockout.
– Absolutely wonderful. That’s exactly how I want joint starts, says Strømsheim.
Johan-Olav Botn lifted himself from Saturday’s 17th place. The recruit runner was number three, and entered the fight for the last place in the World Cup opening.
But after the race, Vebjørn Sørum got the place after 2nd place on Saturday.
Johannes Thingnes Bø finished all the way down in 17th place. Nor does the national team’s Johannes Dale-Skjevdal (number 20) succeed.
– I’m not quite ready. Now I have to wake up, says Thingnes Bø.
He came 10th in the sprint on Saturday. Then he talked about “rookie error”. The man with 20 WC golds, three of them this year, started Sunday’s joint start healthy on the track.
But the champion missed two shots on the first lie and went out 42 seconds behind the leader. On the second lying, there were two new booms.
– He is not very happy with this, said NRK expert Ola Lunde.
In the standing shooting, things finally went better. Johannes Thingnes Bø pepret inn all five shots on the first one.
But in the end there was a new boom. Thus, the champion hit only 15 out of 20 shots.
– I like challenges like this, assures Thingnes Bø, but doesn’t take it lightly:
– I shall be concerned. If not, I’m stupid.
In the women’s class, Ingrid won Landmark Tandrevold a smooth sprint against Maren Hjelmeset Kirkeeide, who hijacked a place on the World Cup team. Emilie Ågheim Kalkenberg and Gro Njølstad Randby get the last two available spots, national team manager Per Arne Botnan confirms.
The World Cup starts with races in Kontiolahti at the beginning of December.
