Official Now: Manchester United officially sign 26-year-old elite South American striker who’s nicknamed ‘Goalscoring Machine’- Official announcement will be made tomorrow

Manchester United target Viktor Gyokeres appears to have fallen out with Sporting Lisbon over his asking price.

Viktor Gyokeres has emerged as a top striker target for Manchester United and it is well documented that he has a €100m (£84m) release clause in his current contract.

However, it was also widely reported that Gyokeres struck a gentleman’s agreement with Sporting that he could leave for around £59m this summer after staying loyal to the Portuguese side last summer.

Now, Ruben Amorim’s former side have gone back on their agreement which has led to Gyokeres growing frustrated with Sporting and even threatening action.

Recent reports suggest Gyokeres is ready to go on strike at Sporting to force a move this summer, which could be great news for Ineos and United.

Viktor Gyokeres joins Sofyan Amrabat going on strike for Man Utd move

Gyokeres is open to joining United this summer and him going on strike would help to force a move to Old Trafford this summer.

He would not be the first player to take such action with Manchester Evening News reporting that Sofyan Amrabat went on strike to make his loan move to United in 2023.

Amrabat rejected several clubs to join United including proposals from Liverpool and Atletico Madrid. He had his sights set on United but the move didn’t work out as expected.

United had a £21m buy option for Amrabat but chose not to trigger it last summer, meaning he only played 30 matches for the Red Devils before leaving to join Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce.

Amrabat did enjoy some strong performances towards the end of the season, including a full 90-minute display in the FA Cup final, but he is widely considered a flop given the excitement at his arrival.

Viktor Gyokeres could help Man United strike bargain deal

Sporting’s president disputed Gyokeres’ agreement, arguing that the club never agreed to a price tag of £59m this summer.

The Portuguese club’s president insisted that they will not hold out for his £84m release clause, but also stated that they will require more than £59m to let him leave.

However, if Gyokeres follows through with his threat and goes on strike this summer, it would force Sporting to consider lower offers to let him leave.

United are yet to bid for Gyokeres as an offer will likely require a few sales to take place first, but the situation is being closely monitored by Ineos.

After missing out on Liam Delap, Gyokeres appears to be the first-choice striker target and Amorim will be keen to reunite with the Swedish star sooner rather than later.
