Personal terms Agreed: £89m striker has finally agree terms to join Arsenal as the Gunnners close to announce first summer transfer signing

Arsenal are reportedly prioritising signing Brighton and Hove Albion star Joao Pedro, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.

After being impressed by the Brazilian’s displays for Watford, the Seagulls decided to hire him a couple of years ago by spending a club record fee. However, he didn’t remain Brighton’s record purchase for long as Georginio Rutter became the most expensive player last summer and currently holds this record.

Upon moving to AMEX Stadium, the South American enjoyed a stellar debut campaign, making 23 goal contributions in all competitions. He also showcased glimpses of his qualities in the recently concluded campaign, netting 10 times and registering six assists in 27 Premier League appearances.

Now, Fichajes state that Arsenal have been attracted by Pedro’s recent eye-catching displays, so they have identified him as one of the priority options to strengthen the attacking department.

Brighton don’t allow their star man to leave for cheap, and Arsenal previously experienced their resilience during the pursuit of Ben White. The Seagulls won’t make it easy for the Gunners this time around either and have slapped a £67m price tag on Pedro’s head with his existing deal set to run until 2028.

Pedro to Arsenal

The 23-year-old is a technically gifted, versatile forward. He is comfortable playing in the centre-forward position and on the left flank, moreover, he can provide cover in the No.10 role if needed.

Mikel Arteta likes having players like him, who can play multiple positions, and he has purchased this type of option over the years with Leandro Trossard and Mikel Merino, the prime examples of that.

Arsenal currently have a settled team but need reinforcements at striker and left wing to bridge the gap with Liverpool. While Pedro offers versatility and is more suited to playing as an inside forward, he may be better off as a squad player rather than a first-choice option in either the central or wide attacking roles in Arteta’s first eleven.

Considering the amount of money Brighton are demanding for him, Arsenal might be better off exploring other options to strengthen the attack. Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his service this summer.
