Manchester United have been linked with a number of players in this transfer window and despite the host of names, one common feature among most of them has been the fact that they are strikers.
It clearly underlines what everyone seems to think is set to be the priority for the Red Devils ahead of the new season.
Ruben Amorim & co. have already managed to secure the signature of Matheus Cunha from Wolves. He might not be an out-and-out number nine but he is exactly the kind of player the Red Devils need to improve chance creation.
However, just the Brazilian is unlikely to be enough as Amorim also needs a reliable striker who can finish off chances.
Man Utd have had to contend this season with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee as their striker options.
The latter is not a natural number nine, much like Cunha and played much better when he was deployed deeper. The Dane on the other hand, struggled to show any sort of consistency.
Now, as per Gazzetta Dello Sport via Sports Witness, Napoli star Victor Osimhen is not agreeing to a move to Al-Hilal as he continues to dream for Man Utd.
The Nigerian striker is prepared to secure a move to Old Trafford and the club are studying the feasibility of an operation.
Osimhen has a release clause of around £63.5million in his contract with Napoli and although that fee is quite a bargain for a player with his ability, the Red Devils are considering adding Joshua Zirkzee to the deal.
It makes sense as the arrival of Cunha could mean that the ex-Bologna player doesn’t get much game time at Old Trafford.
Having fallen out with the Italian club at the beginning of Antonio Conte’s tenure, Osimhen spent last season on loan at Galatasaray, where he had a very good time.
Say what you want of the Nigerian but one thing that there is little doubt about is that he guarantees goals for whichever team he plays for.
At 26, the number nine is just entering the prime years of his career and it bodes well for the club that he wants to move to Man Utd. It could be a match made in heaven as Ruben Amorim will finally get a reliable goalscorer at his disposal and the player can spend his prime years at a big club.
The only stumbling block in this potential signing would be the wages that Osimhen demands and Man Utd might need to move on a few players to make room for the Nigerian.
Who knows, maybe the club could offer Alejandro Garnacho, a player Napoli wanted back in January to sweeten the deal. Let’s wait and see how it goes.
