Premier League referee suspended with immediate effect – must have ex-armed Klopp

A video purporting to show Premier League referee David Coote making disparaging comments about former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp is under scrutiny.

Football referee David Coote will be in the spotlight.

It is the English referees’ association PGMOL that will be in possession of and will take a closer look at the current video, reports both the Press Association and the BBC news agency.

A number of British media, including Sky Sports, cite a statement from the referees’ association confirming that Coote has been suspended with immediate effect pending the outcome of the investigation that you have initiated.

PGMOL states that it will not be relevant to comment on the matter further until the final conclusions are available.

The video that is the background for the case is circulating in social media. At the same time, the BBC emphasizes that it has not been possible to verify that it is genuine.

In the video, Coote will use what is referred to as a very offensive verbal expression to describe Klopp. The statement will relate to events in a fight between Liverpool and Burnley several years ago.

After the current match, Klopp criticized referee Coote for making what he considered weak decisions.

The German star coach left Liverpool in June after almost a decade as head of the Merseyside club.

Coote was the referee when Liverpool beat Aston Villa 2-0 on Saturday. The 42-year-old is one of the Premier League’s most experienced referees and has refereed matches in the league since 2018.

The Press Association has asked Liverpool for a comment on the video, but has not received a response.
