“Ruud van Nistelrooy will never make such comments and that’s why we love him more than Ruben Amorim”: Manchester United’s winger Amad Diallo has revealed why they will always prefer Ruud van Nistelrooy over Ruben Amorim

Manchester United returned to winning ways after a 2-1 victory against Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The Red Devils desperately needed to beat their Scottish rivals to move into the Europa League’s automatic qualification spots and avoid playing additional play-off matches.

A late winner from Bruno Fernandes sealed the result and eased some of the pressure on Ruben Amorim following his recent comments about the state of the current Manchester United first team.

And although it was clear the side did everything they could to take all three points against Rangers, some of the squad still felt slightly disheartened by the United manager’s recent comments.

Man United players unhappy with Ruben Amorim for ‘worst team ever’ remark
The Portuguese boss made headlines following United’s 2-1 defeat against Brighton last weekend.

Amorim not only smashed a TV in the dressing room, but also called his players ‘the worst team in the club’s history‘ during his post-match press conference.

And although the United squad have recently responded with a win, according to ESPN’s Mark Ogden, there are still some disgruntled figures behind the scenes.

“He backtracked it a bit, didn’t he?” he said when asked how the players feel about their manager’s comments.

“I think he tried to say it was on him rather than the players, but I’ve been told the players aren’t massively overjoyed by the fact that he said that.”

He continued: “But then players do like to moan and whinge, […] so they were never going to be happy about it, but I do think it was an overreaction. They’re not the worst Man United team we’ve ever seen.”

Although Ogden’s assessment may surprise some, it’s important to note the game has moved on since the days of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Don’t worry Ruben, the fans loved it
Where it once was a cardinal sin to question your manager’s public comments, players have a lot more power to dictate the narrative these days.

However, even though some United stars might not have enjoyed being called out in front of the press, the majority of fans loved it.

For too long this United team have put in subpar performances and left match-going supporters feeling short-changed — being called out on their blatant unfulfilled potential is the absolute least they deserve.

Unless your name is Amad, you are fully within range of criticism and until the manager’s warnings are taken seriously, many should fear for their place in the team — just ask Marcus Rashford.
