The Thessalians of Savvas Poursaitidis were lucky to take the lead twice, with Mark Koszta in the 13th minute and Junior Medieta in the 63rd minute. However, the Boeotians found an answer as many times, with a direct foul by Marios-Panagiotis Vichos in the 34th minute and a shot by Giannis Gianniotas in the 88th minute. And in the 94th minute, the team of Nikos Papadopoulos, who also had three goals, got the first victory of the season with Giorgos Katris.
The evolution of the fight
Levadeiakos entered the match with a desire to keep the ball and look for the goal. It is characteristic that in the first quarter the possession was 75%-25%, but without a remarkable phase for the home team. Instead, the visitors once counter-attacked and managed to score. Koszta had luck on his side, of course, since in the shot he attempted, the ball went against Katris and tricked David Groff for 0-1 in the 13th minute.
The Boeotians did not need much time to react. In the 25th minute, after Guillermo Balci’s cross, Zini got a header, but the crossbar saved Daniel Kovacs and Volos. Three minutes later, after a stoppage time, Panagiotis Symelidis managed to send the ball into the net, but the goal did not count.
Stefanos Koumbarakis and Spyridon Zambalas who were in the VAR, called Fotis Polychronis for an on field review, with the goal being canceled due to an offensive foul by Symelidis seconds before he scored.
In the 34th minute, however, nobody and nothing could cancel the wonderful goal of Vichus: an improbable free kick with the left, into Kovacs’ net, for 1-1. Score with which the first part ended. The two were protagonists in the first phase of the second half as well. Only this time the beam saved the goalkeeper of Volos in the powerful shot of Vichos (48′).
Five minutes later, the Thessalonians threatened, with Koszta heading in, but off target, after Franco Ferrari’s cross. Koszta was the creator of the 1-2 in the 63′. He surpassed Panagiotis Liagas and shot, completing another counterattack by the guests, Groff saved but Mendieta took the rebound, putting Volos in front of the score again. Levadeiakos tried to respond immediately, but Kovacs impressively blocked Enis Tsokai’s strong shot (72′).
In the 86th minute, the… bad thing with the goalposts was the third for Nikos Papadopoulos’ team. From a free kick, Paschalis Kassos took the header, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. In the next minute, however, redemption came for the hosts, from another change. Gianniotas took the ball outside the area, maneuvered and shot with his left, finding the post… and the net this time, for 2-2.
In the fourth minute of stoppage time, the final chapter of this sensational match was written. From a foul by Vichos, Katris jumped faster than everyone and with an aerial projection defeated Kovacs for the final 3-2. This year’s first “three points” for Levadeiakos who got off the last place of the ranking, with Volos suffering its second consecutive defeat and third in the last four matches.
