“We have decided to appeal against their decision, That’s unfair”: Manchester United’s coach Ruben Amorim has responds to FA’s ‘career-ending’ punishment for Patrick Dorgu after his horrible tackle on Omari Hutchinson

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has defended Patrick Dorgu after his dangerous red card in Wednesday’s 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town.

It was an eventful first half for Dorgu, who was guilty of gifting Ipswich their opening goal just four minutes into the contest as a mix-up with goalkeeper Andre Onana handed Jaden Philogene an open goal to tap his side ahead.

Amorim argued it was Dorgu’s desire to atone for his error that saw him catch Omari Hutchinson with a high challenge on the stroke of half-time.

“Everybody when they watch that ball were thinking, ‘here we go again’,” Amorim said of the opening goal. “But then sometimes football is like that and we managed to fight all the situations during the game and think we truly deserve the three points.

“The first situation was a misunderstanding, the way they connect [with] each other. Then the sending off, the important thing is that I really know Dorgu quite well. He doesn’t want to harm anybody and that is important for me.

“Then you have this situation. He had that mistake and then you feel in the game that he was making a lot of runs, trying to win every ball, being aggressive and sometimes you overdo it and he has these problems today.”

Dorgu’s international manager, Brian Riemer, was working as a pundit for the game and offered his sympathy over the first goal.

“I feel for the boy,” the Denmark boss said. “Everyone knows it’s not nice to be in a situation like that.

“But from the coaching side of the table, it’s worse if tactical decisions and individual skills are not good enough.
