Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Brentford star Christian Norgaard, according to reports – with the Gunners having made a £9.4million offer for the experienced midfielder to come into their ranks ahead of pre-season.

The Gunners are shortly set to add Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad at the turn of the month, in a deal that could reac4h around £51million as they look to replace Jorginho – but more backup is needed, and the Gunners are aiming to pad out their squad with Premier League experience.

With that in mind, the report by David Ornstein on X (formerly Twitter) states that Arsenal are close to an agreement with Brentford for Norgaard – with a deal not done just yet, but it is heading in that direction in what could be the first signing of their summer, if they land him ahead of Zubimendi.

The Gunners have made an €11million (£9.4million) offer for the Dane, and the ‘extraordinary’ Brentford midfielder wants to join Arsenal.

It’s thought that he’s their main target, being an experienced Premier League option who is ready for the league after Jorginho’s exit to Flamengo and Thomas Partey’s imminent exit when his contract expires next week.

Norgaard joined Brentford from Fiorentina in 2019, spending two seasons in the Championship and helping them to promotion, before becoming a key performer in their four Premier League seasons, including notching a career-high five league goals in one season.

Featuring under former boss Thomas Frank at Brondby, the 31-year-old has a wealth of experience in the top-flight and his proficiency in defensive midfield could be extremely useful alongside Declan Rice, Zubimendi and Mikel Merino.

As a cheap option with Arsenal set to strengthen greatly elsewhere, it’s a deal that could make a lot of sense for Arteta going forward due to the fact he’s an international cap and has acted as Brentford captain for the past two seasons.
