Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto admitted that they were surprised by the game of Chen Zhi Yi/Presley Smith when they faced off in the round of 32 of the Kumamoto Masters 2024. The Indonesian men’s doubles were forced to play tight by the United States pair in the first set.

Competing at the Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium, Tuesday (12/11), Fajar/Rian defeated Chen/Presley in straight games. The pair won 25-23, 21-11 in 32 minutes.

“Quite surprised by the opponent’s game, we have never met before,” said Fajar. “In the first game our defense was quite fragile, not optimal. But we didn’t want to give up, trying one by one to catch up.”

“In the first game, we have to admit that when we started, we made a lot of our own mistakes. The opponents also played well in positions where the wind was winning, they were better pressing and attacking. Many of our returns were a bit irresponsible and that made it easier for them to get points,” added Rian.

“Earlier we finally tried to extend the ball first and from there we were able to get a lot of points. In the second game, we were more comfortable playing,” said Fajar again.

Qualifying for the round of 16 of the Kumamoto Masters 2024, Fajar/Rian will prepare themselves even better. “Tomorrow there is a holiday before the last 16, but we will use it for training. From this match we have to restore the feeling of hitting again,” concluded Rian.

Indonesian men’s doubles badminton players, Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto finally won their first All England title, after beating the pair Muhammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan in straight games in the All Indonesian final.
