US Open winner Yannick Sinner reaches top 10 in ATP rankings

New York : US Open men’s champion Yannick Sinner doubled his lead at number one in the ATP rankings released on Monday, while runner-up Taylor Fritz moved into the top 10 and women’s runner-up Jessica Pegula moved up to number three in the WTA rankings. Men’s champion Sinner reached the top of the ATP rankings in June. He won the US Open title by defeating Fritz 6-3, 6-4, 7-5. Fitz managed to return to the top 10 from number seven.
At the same time, women’s champion Aryna Sabalenka remained second in the WTA rankings behind Iga Swiatek. On Saturday, Sabalenka had registered a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Pegula in the final. Sabalenka briefly displaced Swiatek from the number one spot after finishing runner-up to Coco Gauff at last year’s US Open. Sabalenka has won two Grand Slam titles in 2024, having won the Australian Open in January.
Novak Djokovic dropped from second to fourth in the rankings after losing to Alexei Popyrin in the third round. Alexander Zverev is at second place and after him Carlos Alcaraz is at third place. Daniil Medvedev remains at fifth and Andrey Rublev at sixth.
