Manchester United have begun a new era with Ruben Amorim taking the reins permanently from Erik ten Hag.
Meanwhile, rivals Liverpool begun their new era in the summer when Arne Slot replaced Jurgen Klopp at the helm of the Reds.
The Red Devils will be hoping that Amorim can hit the ground running at Old Trafford like Slot has done at Anfield.
Now, the new Manchester United manager has been told what he “needs to do” at Old Trafford that Slot has done at Liverpool.
Stan Collymore urges Ruben Amorim to ‘give everyone a chance’ at Manchester United and implement his system
Anfield cult hero Stan Collymore, writing on CaughtOffside, believes Amorim needs to initially “give everyone a chance” to prove themselves at Man United.
While he does so, he needs to be slow and steady in implementing his methods while he gets a good idea of how the players fit in his system, added Collymore.
And then, Amorim should go to the Man United board around the end of the season and firmly declare who he wants to keep and who’ll be surplus to his requirements.
Amorim needs to do what Arne Slot has done,” wrote Collymore.
“Give everybody a chance, and slowly but surely implement his system, making sure he’s got players to play that system.
“He can then go to the board and the technical staff at the end of the season, or even before then – around May time – and say ‘I want to keep him, him and him, he could fit into the system, these can’t’.”
Man United players accused of not suiting Amorim’s style
Amorim has two games under his belt so far at Man United, recording a 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town on his debut before beating Bodo/Glimt 3-2 in his second match.
It’s too early to pass judgement on Amorim, but over the course of the season, fans will get a better picture of things as he looks to stamp his identity on the Red Devils.
The January transfer window could see some new signings arrive at Old Trafford, and it remains to be seen whether anyone will be offloaded so early on in Amorim’s tenure.
Pundit Michael Bridges recently said Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Jonny Evans don’t suit Amorim’s style – but they’ll surely be given a chance to prove themselves under the new manager.
