Cristiano Ronaldo is eager for Al Nassr to bring Casemiro to the Saudi Pro League this month.

Brazil midfielder Casemiro, who was a team-mate of Ronaldo’s at Real Madrid, has fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

And despite Casemiro appearing to have lost some sharpness this season, Ronaldo believes bringing one of the most decorated midfielders in Europe to Saudi would further boost the league’s profile.

According to the Daily Star, United are happy to listen to offers for Casemiro, whose £300,000-a-week contract occupies a significant chunk of the club’s wage bill.

The 32-year-old has not featured since the home defeat to Newcastle in late December with Amorim favouring Manuel Ugarte alongside captain Bruno Fernandes in midfield. Youngster Toby Collyer has also been getting more opportunities and Kobbie Mainoo is ahead of Casemiro in the pecking order.

Having left Casemiro as an unused substitute against Rangers in the Europa League last Thursday, Amorim questioned whether he could fit in his desired 3-4-2-1 system.

“He has to have the characteristics and then I have to choose the player with the characteristics on how I see the game,” Amorim said. “It is just like that and I have to make some choices, I want to play a game that is sometimes different from other coaches and I have to choose based on that. That’s all.”

It remains unclear whether Marcus Rashford will get the move he desires this month despite a clear breakdown in his relationship with Amorim, who said after the win at Fulham he would rather name 61-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital as a substitute while highlighting commitment concerns.

Meanwhile, Lisandro Martinez is demanding more from United’s struggling strikers. But Sunday’s doubly fortunate matchwinner against Fulham admits the rest of the team can also ease the burden on Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

And while there is an acceptance that United are still getting used to Amorim’s tactical plan, Martinez says more can be done to supply the centre-forwards with better quality passes.

“We take the responsibility,” Martinez said. “I think we played many long balls to them and for them it’s really tough. They fight against two centre-backs and the centre-backs here in the Premier League are really difficult to win something.

“But they have to do better as well. They are really good players but we have to contribute more and put them in a better space or place on the pitch. We have to find them in the right places and dangerous places to make them score.”
