The incident occurred while England were fielding, with Topley looking frustrated as he was climbing the pavilion stairs, grabbed a chair and hit it aggressively on the handrail. In addition to the financial penalty, Topley received one demerit point, his first in a 24-month period.
Topley admitted his mistake
Topley accepted the charges laid by the match officials, including on-field umpires Leslie Reifer and Zahid Basrath, third umpire Gregory Brathwaite and fourth umpire Deighton Butler. Richie Richardson of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Referees proposed the punishment and Topley accepted the decision without the need for a formal hearing. According to the ICC code, the minimum penalty for a Level 1 breach like Topple is an official reprimand and the maximum penalty is a 50 per cent match fee deduction as well as one or two demerit points.
