The Kazakh overpowered her rival with her effortless power and precise shotmaking throughout the contest. Aside from the trophy, she’s also taking home the biggest paycheck in the history of women’s tennis.
Rybakina will pocket a record-breaking $5.2 million as this year’s WTA Finals champion. She also went undefeated during the group stage, thus helping her secure this massive monetary compensation. The Kazakh has broken the record for the highest prize money earned at a single event by a woman, which was held by Sabalenka.
Sabalenka received $5 million for winning the US Open earlier this year. Her runner-up finish at the year-end championships has fetched her $2.6 million. This marked her second loss in the showpiece match at the WTA Finals. She previously lost to Caroline Garcia in the 2022 final as well.
Despite the defeat, Sabalenka will break Serena Williams’ record of total prize money earned in a single year. The American made $12.3 million in 2013, a record that stood until today. Sabalenka will wrap up the 2025 season with $15 million, and will move to second place in terms of career prize money with $45 million, trailing only Williams.
Jessica Pegula and Amanda Anisimova, who lost in the semifinals, walked away with $1.05 million each. Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek, who won only one match during the group stage, received $695,000 each.
Jasmine Paolini and Madison Keys went winless during the group phase, yet received $340,000 as guaranteed participation fee. Alternate Ekaterina Alexandrova, who replaced Keys in the draw for one match, also earned $340,000.
